Six people were killed and at least eight people were wounded, including an 11-month-old boy and a 2-year-old boy, during a bloody start to the week in Chicago that saw 10 of the victims shot at two scenes less than 3 miles apart on the South Side.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Police say a 3-year-old Coffee County boy has shot his 18-month-old brother in the head.
The Coffee County Sheriff's Department said the toddler shot the infant with a .25-caliber automatic pistol in a home Tuesday afternoon in the community of Hillsboro, which is about 70 miles southeast of Nashville.
The 18-month-hold was transported to a local hospital. His condition is unknown.
Sgt. Danny Ferrell told the Associated Press that investigators are still trying to determine how the child was able to get a hold of the weapon. He said the 3-year-old was not harmed.
Authorities are not identifying the boys.

An Osceola County father who bought a .45-caliber carbine, 
which authorities say his underage son used for a 2013 shooting spree that resulted in two deaths, took a plea deal Thursday carrying four months in jail.
Lothar Schafer pleaded no contest to a charge of adult permitting a minor to possess a firearm.
He was sentenced to two years of probation, on the condition that the first four months be spent in the Osceola County Jail.
Prosecutors dropped a culpable-negligence charge under the deal.
Circuit Judge Jon B. Morgan accepted the plea and agreed to withhold adjudication, meaning Schafer will not be convicted if he completes his probation successfully.
In handing down the sentence, the judge found that Schafer had "no participation in or idea what was going on with this firearm."
After the hearing, Schafer was taken into custody to begin his sentence.
He was barred from possessing any firearms while on probation, after his jail term is over.
His son Konrad, now 17, faces life in prison if convicted later this year. His father took Konrad gun shopping and let him pick out a Hi-Point carbine and 100
rounds of ammunition two days before the shootings began in late June.
Each night while his father, who is deaf, slept, Konrad and his friends took the weapon and stole the family car to shoot at homes and parked cars, according to police.
When he was arrested two years ago, Konrad, then 15, told Kissimmee police he shot and killed his first victim for "fun," according to police.
The first victim was David Guerrero, 17, who was shot in the back in Kissimmee on June 26, 2013 as he walked to catch a bus to work.
The second victim, Eric Roopnarine, 22, died July 3 during a home invasion at his family's Poinciana home.
After co-defendant David Damus, now 21, shot Roopnarine in the face, Konrad stabbed him in the neck, according to police and court records.
Both are charged with first-degree murder and armed burglary as is co-defendant Victoria Rios, a Kissimmee runaway accused with setting up the fatal home invasion.
Juan Muriel, 22, the remaining co-defendant, agreed to testify against the others in return for a 10-year sentence.
Orange-Osceola State Attorney Jeff Ashton intends to personally prosecute Damus, Rios and Schafer.

A man is in custody after a 13-year-old girl was shot and killed as children were playing with a gun on Detroit's east side Tuesday, according to a Detroit Police spokesman.
The girl, whose age was reported incorrectly earlier because of incorrect information provided, was in a house with a 14-year-old boy who lived there and with her two younger brothers, Detroit Police spokesman Sgt. Michael Woody said today.
The boy's father, who has not been charged, was arrested on charges of being a felon in possession of a gun and on some traffic warrants, Woody said. It's unclear what the 34-year-old man's criminal history involved.
Police do not know precisely who had the handgun when it went off in the house in the 15800 block of Lappin Street about 4:30 p.m., Woody said.
"(Children in the house) were playing with the gun, and the gun went off," Woody said. "(The gun) was kept in an unsecured location inside the parents' bedroom."

LOWNDES COUNTY- A Lowndes County man is facing a murder charge after allegedly shooting his girlfriend's four-year-old son with a hunting rifle.
Patrick Chambers, 27, was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon for his alleged role in the shooting death of four-year-old Brayden Barksdale, according to Lowndes County Chief Deputy Marc Miley. Chambers will officially be charged with murder and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon on Wednesday, Miley said. Miley did not know Chamber's prior felony conviction but said it stemmed from an out of state charge. Chambers is the boyfriend of Barksdale's mother, Amy Richardson, Miley said.

A 9-month-old baby boy was shot dead in his playpen after his 5-year-old brother found a loaded revolver and fired the weapon, the sheriff in Missouri’s rural Nodaway County said.

DETROIT — A 4-year-old boy was fatally shot Thursday 
in what police said was a tragic, avoidable accident.
The shooter was the boy's 4-year-old female cousin.

Sgt. Michael Woody, a Detroit police spokesman, said the children were playing in the back bedroom of a home when the girl found a rifle — loaded and not locked in a case — underneath the bed.
He said the girl pointed the gun at her cousin and pulled the trigger, shooting him in the chest.
